Based on the impact of PfK13 mutations on hemoglobin uptake and GSH levels in the parasite, one can hypothesise that a decrease in redox-active ferrous heme in artemisinin resistant parasites leads to elevated GSH within the cell, potentially making them more tolerant to artemisinin-induced oxidative stress
